Huh, Henri was right. Bran did have an easy enough time talking to him unlike when he spoke with other people. Normally he only responded with very concise sentences that left no room for misinterpretation because he was wholly uncomfortable speaking to people. People often thought of him as a robot because of how he spoke, but with Henri, it was different. Perhaps it truly was just because he was easy to talk to. Or maybe, just maybe, it was because he was so interested and curious to know more about him that Bran saw no other option than to actually speak (even if he was embarrassing himself along the way every once in a while).
"So you like to travel just like I like to wander. We share a similar interest it seems," he mused, staring into space while he listened intently. He couldn't help but feel a little prickle of something when he heard that Henri wanted to go to the Inner Heart. But hearing his reason for not traveling there, Bran had to take a moment to look him over thoroughly. How in the world would he stand out? Sure, the clothes maybe would stick out a little, but he'd fit right in. Maybe... He could invite him over and then show him around? He did know the Inner Heart very well from all his wanderings, so perhaps he could show him around sometime if he so desired.
He'd have to make sure to mention that before they parted ways.
"Ah, food. Well I suppose... I don't really have one," he stated bluntly, honestly surprised that he never noticed such a thing before. "I've never really thought much about that. I appreciate most food and I'm willing to try anything at least once, but I can't say I have a favorite. Unless you count sweets; I have a weakness for them. Asking me to pick a favorite sweet would be like asking me to pick a favorite book: impossible."
Just the talk of food made his stomach growl yet again, albeit a little louder this time. Awkwardly coughing to cover up the sounds of his famished stomach, he could feel his ears redden with embarrassment. This would be the last time he would go out wandering before eating. "Ahem, so now it's my turn," he murmured, muffled by his hand against his own mouth to play along with the coughing. "What... is your favorite memory? I know it's a bit personal, so you can be as vague about it as you would like."

Henri knew that if he ever did venture out to the Inner Heart, he'd stick out for the pure fact that he was a commoner. It was like these magicians knew or something - and he couldn't stand intruding, or being looked at rudely even if he hadn't done anything. He heard rumors, too, about commoners who dared go in without an invitation. But those were just rumors, and Henri didn't really believe them. Still, it was a word of caution, and no sane-minded commoner would ever just wander in with reckless abandon.
"Oh, I'll keep that in mind." Henri had more or less asked the food question to see if his choice of food would be alright with Bran. At it seemed like, for the most part, any choice of food would've been go, so he was in the clear. Henri was much the same - he just ate whatever, really. It came with the lack of money. Sometimes he would have cravings, but those were far and few between, and didn't really matter. He really did miss his mother's cooking though...
"Haha, sweets. What - oh, wait, never mind, I'll ask later." He'd almost slipped and asked another question - but at least he had one in mind now. Even if it was just as simple as the first. Though he heard Bran's stomach growling, maybe he should skimp out of the topic of food for the time being. "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to make your stomach react."
He thought for a moment, two, head cocked to the side deep in thought. "Favorite memory, huh..." He had a lot of those. His first friends, his parents, his daily going abouts, the sights to see, the pages to fill full of memories he dare not forget. "I guess it would be this one time, my parents took me out during the night. We went to a rooftop, up above the other buildings. From there I could see it - the Eiffel Tower. It was clear and bright as day, and incredibly beautiful. I was maybe five, but I can still remember it." Yeah, that had to be his best, his most favorite.
"Ahem, well I guess my question kind of pales in comparison to yours. I know you said it was impossible to pick what kind of sweets you like the most, but do you like chocolate better than candy, or maybe something else? If that's too hard, I guess I can ask something else."

Bran knew it wasn't Henri's fault that he was so hungry, but he couldn't help pouting just a little bit at his apology. From what he could tell, it was sincere enough, so he could forgive him for that. It's not as if he could hold a grudge anyways because of the look the handsome man had on his face while he pondered over his answer. Henri was much too attractive and much too adorable and this had to be illegal somewhere in the universe. It was unfair having to keep calm when all he wanted to do was stare at him.
'How about I don't scare him away?' he noted in the recesses of his mind, a smile taking place of the pout he had not to long ago as he listened. Hearing him be all excited over something such as the Eiffel Tower made Bran want to take him there if only for a little while. He wanted to see Henri smile and he wanted to be the reason for that smile.
"I like listening, so I tend to ask questions that require some deep thought. Not that your questions don't; in fact, I didn't even know I didn't have a favorite food until you brought it up. I just... I love stories," he admitted, taking a moment to mull over the question Henri asked. Hmmm, chocolate or candy? "As for the sweets, I... I think I like chocolate better. It can be sweet or bitter or even spicy if mixed with the right things. It's more versatile and suits me more since I become bored so easily with things."
Now for a question, except he couldn't really think of one for the moment. He had to think of something though. He couldn't just leave him hanging. That was unfair to the askee and then he wouldn't be able to learn anything more if he didn't ask. He had to thing of something. "If you had the chance to go to the Inner Heart, what would be the top three things you would want to see or do there? Surely there must be something you'd love to do."
And maybe this question was more for him than for Henri. How else was he supposed to impress him?

Henri felt a bit bad that he couldn't come up with better questions, but he supposed if Bran said it was alright, then it was alright. It had to be alright, surely. He promised to himself - he'd come up with better questions this time around. Surely he had something, lurking in his brain, that was better than his rather straightforward questions about edibles.
He kept a mental note. Chocolates better than candy. But sweets were sweets. But still, he thought that maybe the chocolates part would be a good thing to remember.
"Ah, I hope you don't become bored of me, Bran. I know I'm not the most interesting person on the planet, but I'd like to stay interesting to you." If Bran was bored easily, he wasn't sure if he could keep his attention. He was just a regular old person, who just happened to save him from a perhaps disastrous trip to the unsavory parts of town. It was a beautiful place to be, if you could look past the ugly. And the streetwalkers. And the all-around gloomy atmosphere.
"Three things I'd like to see? Oh, that's too easy. I've had a lot of time to think about it, whenever I imagine that maybe someday I'll be able to go. Wishful thinking, you know? I definitely want to see the Eiffel Tower up close! It's a really big monument, and even from a distance it's beautiful. Maybe I could go up it - is that allowed? Oh, I don't know... that would be hoping for too much, isn't it? The Louvre too, I hear there's the most beautiful paintings inside. I could probably be in there all day, just admiring it. And the Cathedral - oh, the rumors say that it's an absolutely gorgeous piece of architecture, inside and out." Oh, he could almost see it, imagine it in his mind's eye. He'd be so happy if he just got to see it, just once, but he knew it was impossible.
"Oh. I got a bit carried away. Let's see..." He was stuck on a question. He said to himself that this one had to be a good one this time, something thought provoking, but he was coming up with very little. "Maybe, uh.... Hmmm. I just don't know how you do it, your questions are always so good. I guess - what kind of people do you like to hang out with?" That was a good question, right?

Never had Bran wanted to laugh so badly at something silly someone said. Him get bored of Henri? It seemed highly unlikely at this point in time. In fact, the more he learned or observed the handsome man, the more interested he became. No, he would never get bored of him and it was just funny to him that Henri would think that. It made the magician smile more than usual.
While Henri was explaining his answer to the question, he couldn't help but look at him and take in just how happy and excited he seemed. It reminded him of an excited child who was going to visit some fabulous place for the first time and Bran couldn't help but find it absolutely endearing. How could a person seem so cute just by talking? Perhaps it was only Henri who could make talking seem like the most adorable thing in the world.
"You didn't get carried away. You seemed really happy to talk about it and it makes me happy to see you so excited. It's... nice," he encouraged, liking the idea of Henri being happy. To him, he seemed like a person who most definitely deserved to be happy. "As for the people... Well, I do talk to librarians from time to time, but I don't think that counts as hanging out. I don't... really socialize all that much at all. But I suppose I like hanging out with people like you, Henri. It's something new and interesting. Oh, and something I would never bore of. You're too interesting."
Flashing a small smile at him, the magician had to momentarily pause to think of a question. Well, to think of a good question because there was one particular question that had been pestering him since they began talking. Well, it's not as if he currently had another question to give, right? Besides, their stop would be coming soon, so surely a small question should suffice until they got food.
"Hm... Has anyone ever mentioned how handsome you are?" he questioned unabashedly, for once not embarrassed by his own intrigue and bluntness. He was honestly just curious because Henri was just that attractive to him. Perhaps he heard it often?

Ah, did he hear that right? Henri made Bran, happy? Simply by talking? Well, that was easy. Usually it was other things that made people happy, but he was glad that Bran was easy to please. He preferred it, actually, because what if he did other things that made him even happier...?
No - Henri shook it out of his mind. He had to stop thinking like that.
"Th-thanks, I guess. I have a tendency to do that, but not a lot of people stop me when I go on and on. I guess that's why. I like making you happy, Bran." He offered a smile again, as he listened to him talk about the people he liked. That was a pretty good question, and it would give him some idea as to what kind of person Bran liked, too. Apparently, that person was Henri (not that he minded, he liked being liked). "No one's really put it that way. 'Interesting'... I guess that's a good thing. Usually I get stuff like 'you're fun to talk to' or 'you're really nice'."
And then he dropped the bomb.
"I... ah..." Henri suddenly felt like he was treading on thin ice. So that was it, huh? He felt a little blindsided by then, a bit abashed, a little flattered but a lot embarrassed. "I've never had someone be this forward with me, but yes, it's been mentioned in passing before." Did Bran really find him handsome? He couldn't help but feel glad of it, yet incredibly flustered over it. He was a bit stunned, unable to come up with a question.
"So um... oh!" The train pulled to a stop, doors opening, and Henri realized they were here. The food place was just a few blocks from here, by far the fastest way to get there. "This way, to food."

To Bran, being interesting was perhaps the highest compliment that he could possibly give a person. Again, he was the type of person that tired quickly of things, so if he found something interesting, he truly meant it. But he supposed that Henri was fun to talk to and nice as well. Still, he had his own way of complimenting people (despite the fact that he rarely ever did so).
For a moment, the magician thought he had asked a terrible question because Henri almost seemed bothered by it or something. Maybe he really shouldn't have been so blunt to ask such a question. Was it even proper to ask such a thing? Either way, he'd have to apologize for making him uncomfortable and perhaps even insulting him. The last thing he wanted was for him to think he was creepy or something. Why didn't he know how to talk to people again?
"Sorry for being so... mindlessly blunt. I was just curious," he apologized, following after Henri as they began to walk again. He was praying that Henri wouldn't abandon him now after such a bold question. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable or anything. It... wasn't my intention to do that. I just... couldn't think of an appropriate or more polite way to ask something like that. It was just on my mind since we've started walking."
Ah, he definitely had to find a way to make it up to Henri now. He deserved that at the very least.
"So again, sorry about that. I won't ask anything like that again if you want. Curiosity gets to me sometimes." He was rambling at this point because he just felt so bad for probably making Henri uncomfortable. It's not as if he had any ill intentions by asking, but it could perhaps be taken in that sort of way by others. Maybe he should just stop talking and just let it be. Yes, he'll just go back to staring at their new surroundings and see if there was anything interesting there.
Still, he couldn't shake the feeling of being sorry.

It hasn't been Henri's intention to make Bran feel sorry for his words - not at all. He wasn't really bothered by it, either. Just a little surprised - he was actually a bit pleased at it. But he was also hitting himself for making Bran feel bad about it. No, no, no, that had not been his intention at all.
"Oh, I think you misunderstood me. I'm flattered you think I'm handsome. Really, I am. It's not everyday a dashing young man says so." Perhaps dashing wasn't the best way to describe Bran. Cute probably wasn't the best to start off with. Neither was adorable. Or innocent.
"Please don't feel like you offended me or anything." Henri had somehow changed from being embarrassed (though very very happy) to trying to reassure Bran that him being handsome was, in fact, very good.
"Hmm, I know this place is here somewhere. Oh, there it is." They had walked a bit out of the way from the station, toward a restaurant. "Don't let it fool you. It might be a bit on the large side but it's pretty cozy."
He led the two of them into the restaurant, which was almost empty. Probably no one really eating at this time. There were a few people here and there, but the two of them were seated almost immediately. "What would you like?"

So he had misunderstood the situation? He hadn't offended Henri at all? But he had seemed so uncomfortable with the question that he couldn't possibly think of another reason why he had reacted the way he did. It was almost as if Henri had been flustered over the question. It's not as if he could possibly be embarrassed by the question, right? He had told Bran himself that he had heard it before, so why the odd reaction?
"Oh," was all he could manage to say as he was dumbfounded by this entire thing. Now the magician just felt awkward because of his own stupidity. How was he so bad at reading situations? He was great at reading in-between the lines when it came to books, but with people... he was just absolutely lost. It was a miracle he survived as long as he had despite being socially inept in every sense of the term.
At least the plus side was that Henri thought him to be dashing. That was a good thing, right?
Mindlessly following after the handsome man, Bran sat across from Henri and then perused through the menu. Really, at this point, he was just starving and would be willing to eat just about anything. Besides, with the knowledge that he had horribly misread the situation only moments ago, his brain was too focused on a way to redeem himself to actually understand what it was he was reading off the menu. "Well, you obviously know this place better than I do and I'm almost sure my stomach is eating itself, so I'll just have whatever you're having. Pick your favorite. I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless of what it is."
He gave the restaurant the look-around, taking in the atmosphere as well as the people in there. Henri had been right; it was cozy. It made him want to visit again some other time. Yes, he liked that idea. But it would be better if...
No, he wasn't going to think about that right now. Another time, another time.
"Henri, do you still plan on escorting me all the way home?" he wondered, hoping that he would get a 'yes' because if that was the case, maybe he could take the long way home. They could perhaps take a few moments to at least visit the outside of the buildings that Henri so wanted to see. Perhaps that would be the way to redeem himself if only a little bit.

"Ah, I guess you're right about that. Hmmm, it's been a while. I think when I was here, I had the spaghetti. It was large, big enough for two people. IF you don't mind sharing, that is. Just your standard spaghetti and meat balls - if you're okay with that! There's more in there, in case you don't like spaghetti. There, oh there's chicken, and pizza. Pizza's always good, too." On and on again! Henri was too far gone at this point. So many words just tumbled out of his mouth, and he was powerless to stop it.
This was actually a very nice restaurant. He'd remembered it because a client had brought him here. Something about romantics, though it had been a bit odd. Still, it was a very good restaurant, and he couldn't say that he didn't like it. He often ate at restaurants, and this one was no exception. It's cozy atmosphere did make it somewhat more popular for couples than alone, but he had forgotten until it was too late to turn back.
He hoped Bran didn't notice. Though, there weren't that many people to notice.
Oh, he had forgotten. Yes, he did say that he wanted to escort him back home. Bran had been so adamant about not allowing him to come with him home before that he had dropped the subject completely, and yet was he bringing it up again. Did he have second thoughts? "Oh, yes. If you'd allow me to, I'd love to escort you home."
That was okay, right? Yes, definitely so. He'd probably have to pay out of pocket for his departure from actual real life work, though.
"I'll order, then, if you're good with it." He called over the waiter.

Bran looked at Henri curiously, a small smile on his lips again. He was... adorable when he rambled on like that, and he didn't find anything adorable. Briefly, the magician allowed himself to ponder over if the handsome man only acted this way with him or if he did so often with others. Although it was selfish of him, he liked to think he was special, but the logical side of him told him otherwise. Still, he could find him to be cute when Henri rambled like that, yeah?
"Like I said, whatever you're having. I don't mind sharing at all," he hummed quietly, again looking around the restaurant. He saw the waiter coming over to them from the corner of his eye, but he quickly ignored him in favor of just observing the small amount of people around them. They all sat in pairs from the looks of it, but the lack of activity made him question if the place was always like this. Maybe it was just the time.
"Well... I sort of figured that you were probably going to escort me all the way home even if I told you not to. And while I'm still leaning a bit towards the "no" side, I have to admit I like having company. It's different." Bran started twiddling with his fingers, looking at the table as he thought about whether or not it was a good idea. He knew it wasn't necessarily wise to trust strangers, but he figured that at some point, he and Henri would at least be friends (so he could gaze at his beauty in a secretly "platonic" sort of way). "We'll probably have to take a longer way to my home though. There's a few things that need to be done on the way."
Such as showing Henri the things he wants to see on his way home. It would be great to see Henri smile as much as he had been a little while ago before all the awkwardness. Which reminded him...
"Oh... It's your turn for a question."

He ordered quickly, a bit embarrassed because the waiter looked at them a bit curiously. Surely no one misunderstood them as a couple on a... a date, right? Well, if he looked at this from an objective standpoint, they were just two guys sitting in a restaurant that was known for catering to couples, sharing a plate of food between the two of them, having a nice time...
Oh dear lord.
They really did look like a couple. Not that Henri really minded terribly, to be honest, but it still took him a few seconds to really comprehend the information. He was a bit taken aback from the revelation, as well. Did Bran know? Was he late to the party? Was he late to realize this, or something? Maybe they could pass off ass just good friends, even though they were really strangers. Hopefully Bran didn't take this the wrong way, he'd really feel bad leading him on like that. Perhaps another time.
"Oh, that's fine. I don't mind at all. I'd rather you be safe. It's dangerous at night, these streets are prone to crime. I mean, if we go toward the richer districts it's better, but it's still a chance. I'd rather not risk it, and two men walking have a less chance of getting jumped or anything." It was getting pretty late, he was a bit worried about taking the trek back to his own home. But that was a bridge to cross when he got to it.
It would be probably dangerous, but he was capable, if anything. If he were so easily mugged or killed, he wouldn't be where he was today. He had muscle, if anything, and he knew how to use it (relatively). He didn't like to use it, at all, but desperate times called for desperate measures. And who was he if he couldn't defend himself as a high profile resistance leader?
"Oh, I suppose it is. I guess it's a bit of payback of my own, now. Has anyone told you how incredibly adorable you are?"

Bran supposed that Henri was right about traveling in pairs during the later hours of the night; it was always best to travel in pairs. But then the thought of Henri just walking all by himself at home appeared in his mind, making him immediately uncomfortable. At least in the Inner Heart, he was safe to wander, but he couldn't imagine what it would be like for him to get home alone.
Maybe it was best to offer him the chance to sleep over at his place until morning. Surely it would be better come daybreak, right?
"I want you safe as well," he muttered under his breath as he continued to toy with his fingers, thinking if perhaps the handsome man across from him thought him to be weak or incapable of protecting himself. He could very well take care of himself and even if he couldn't so much, he wasn't totally stupid. Socially inept, most definitely. But not totally stupid.
For a moment, he hardly registered that Henri was still talking, but when he tuned in, his brain promptly shut down. Adorable? Henri thought he was adorable? Judging from the heat radiating off his face, he immediately knew he was blushing. But could anyone blame him? On top of that, he couldn't help but fidget in his seat. There was a fluttering feeling in his stomach that hadn't been there a few moments ago and he was sure his heart was going much faster than normal. All of this just because he had called Bran cute.
He wondered if this is what a crush felt like.
"N-No," he stuttered out, quite terrible at hiding his embarrassment as he couldn't even look at Henri in the eye to answer him. "Y-You're the... Only o-one who thinks so. I'm n-not cute. I'm a-awkward and just..."
Taking a few deep breaths, he felt the blush on his face lessen and he felt less jittery than before. But even so, he knew his face was still red and that fluttering in his stomach had yet to go away. "T-That... was a silly question," Bran spoke as calmly as he could. "But you really are... the only one who thinks so. Ah, so... Yeah, my turn. Uh... What would you consider your favorite story to be?"

Henri didn't expect such a strong reaction. He had been teasing Bran, for the most part. After all, if they were going about complimenting each other though thinly veiled questions Henri thought that would be the best way to describe Bran. He really was adorable when he stuttered about and blushed and was, altogether, embarrassed.
Was it bad that Henri found Bran all the more adorable to his reaction?
"I'm just teasing you. But you really are adorable, has no one ever told you that before? Or maybe you're just this adorable around me." Maybe, just maybe he was really being conceited about that now. And maybe, just maybe Henri was realizing just how flirtatious he was getting.
Why was he being like this? The only time he really did it was when he needed a customer that badly - usually when rent was due the next day. Did people really fall for that crap, though? Evidently so.
"And I think your awkwardness just adds to your charm. And you are cute, trust me." Henri didn't argue with Bran anymore, even if he wanted to reassure him that it was all the truth and nothing but. It was clear to see, plain as day. He wondered why Bran was so adamant that he wasn't cute. Had he looked in a mirror recently?
Though he didn't regret the question one bit. To see the plethora of emotion run through Bran's face was amusing and it made him feel somewhat proud that he could do that to Bran.
"Hmmm, that's a good question. A story? I don't know that many stories. I mean fairy tales I know a little bit about from my childhood. I can scarcely remember them though. Beauty and the Beast counts, right? I always loved that story." It had been, at least for him. He liked those kinds of stories, especially ones that ended in a happy ending. They were kind of romantic too, though he knew he probably wouldn't end up in a castle.
Didn't stop him from wishing, though.
"Oh, um, hmmm. To tell you the truth I'm awful at coming up with questions. I know I can't ask you about your favorite story because I remember you telling me you couldn't possibly choose. But, uh, then how about this. What is your honest opinion of me? I mean, did I make a good introduction? Am I too mean... I always fear being too mean, sometimes..."
Well that could have gone a bit better.

Bran was almost certain that having the heart beat this incredibly fast was very bad for one's health, but he couldn't find a way to possibly slow it. Taking deep breaths did nothing to calm it and having Henri compliment him only seemed to quicken his heart's tempo. He even felt a little bit light headed and his face burned more, but he chalked it up to being because of the way his heart was acting. How could it be possibly for someone to make him feel this way by simply complimenting him.
He needed help and stat.
Choosing to focus on the sound of Henri's voice rather than the thunderous thumping in his ears, the magician felt himself calm the slightest bit at the mention of Beauty and the Beast. Oh, he remembered that one. The one about how the beast fell in love with the beauty and vice versa after spending time with one another. He had liked that one a lot as a child too. "That's a great story. I loved it as a kid too. It's similar to another story I know where a beautiful girl is sent to live with a lion in a castle only to find that the lion was actually a prince who was cursed by a witch after he spurned her love. It was full of adventure and romance if I remember correctly. You'd probably like it. Maybe I can tell it to you one day if you like or perhaps even another story."
For a moment, Bran was surprised by Henri's question; it even made him forget he was even embarrassed a few moments ago. Henri? Being too mean? That was just... well, absolutely mind-boggling. So he gave the question some thought, still confused over why he would think he would make anything but a good introduction. "I doubt you could ever be mean at all. You don't seem like the type of person, at the very least. To me... Well, you really are the knight-in-shining-armor sort of guy. You seem quite kind and very sincere. You almost remind me of... sugar. From how sweet you seem to be. You're not mean at all. Henri, you're a good person."
He paused, looking at the handsome man right in the eyes. Oh... Why in the hell were his eyes so pretty? They held such a kindness to them that it made him feel like he was being pulled in. Ah, no! He had to focus. "That is my honest opinion. Why did you want to know what I thought of you? Was it something I did or said?"
