The resistance was something whispered about, a bleak feeling in the pit of the stomach. For protection of what was left of the rotting city, the Donovan family, like many others, gave up their first born. They would be proud of their future offspring, and so on. Empty promises. Jacques Donovan was one of those fathers who never heard from their child as the years went on, and while some families could accept it, there were some that couldn't. It was the figurative straw that broke the camel’s back, and he found his way into the Resistance when two more children had nearly grown up in his house. Why couldn't they speak to their own children? Were they hiding something? Questions turned into slammed doors and reprimands. He would do what he could to protect his family, and that included getting his oldest son back, at the very least making sure he was alright. Too many children had never been heard from, and the Donovan family made it their mission to find out who was involved, where the children were, and why so many had never been heard from again.

Jacques brought up his other two children with the mind set of finding truth, achieving justice, and protecting those who can't protect themselves. Essentially raising idealistic children, the eldest of the two, Belle Donovan, found herself going into the medic profession and into the Resistance. It was her way of protecting the weak, and soldiers tell the most interesting stories, and deliver some of the best news. Covertly working, Belle joined the resistance with her brother and father.

Today, Belle finds the most satisfying work is being on the field as a trauma surgeon, patching up those lucky enough to make it before they're transported back to the capital city. She is a person who is very careful and precise, and considers herself a fairly good judge of character, though she is only human. When it comes to the resistance, her main job is gathering and feeding information, with as much proof as possible. For public appearances she works, sometimes over working, as a surgeon and doing research on methods that were lost or never perfected before the Rift to better their equipment. Her younger sibling also works with her for the resistance, though they have minimal contact because of their position as a civilian soldier in the army.
