To protect and serve the public, to do the work that no one else had the stomach for, to fight creatures that weren't supposed to exist - that was Gray's mission in life. Protect and serve the public and keep the demons at bay, demons that so desperately wanted to haunt or hurt the people he swore to protect. There were things that he had seen that others would shiver at, or wouldn't believe, the brutalities of war.

Gray's family and personal life are things he doesn't particularly care to discuss. He has an elevator speech for those who are curious, and only superiors or those in charge of his records know more full detail. 'My family couldn't afford to take care of us, so we moved in with our other relatives, and here we are'. The circumstances of their sudden adoption are fuzzy in Gray's memory, and tight lipped by everyone else. Gray moved into his uncle's old home with his younger brother, Derek. His uncle was a magician, a man who worked for the government and kept Gray as his ward. Their relationship eventually became one of father and son, and Gray learned everything he knew at the old man's knee.

Gray entered the academy and learned the rules of the world, sometimes the hard way. First, Gray went straight into the army, wanting the idealized vision of defending his country against possible threats. A wound to his leg (in a freak accident he barely remembers on the field) cut him out before he was ready, and he went into the police force as an ex-soldier with a leg that never truly healed right. His stubbornness was famed and jokingly attributed to his uncle's influence. Hard working, stubborn, and perhaps a little too determined sometimes, Gray does his best to keep Paris safe, even if the lines for good and bad have blurred… and continue getting more blurry.

Recently things have started to go a little more blurry. Shadows that shouldn’t move waver in his line of sight, with unexplained headaches coming without warning. Some shadows have hands and feet, but he blinks and they’re gone. Gray will look at someone down the street, see something lurking behind them, touching their shoulder, but even after a shouted warning, the person doesn’t seem to notice – but their new shadow does. It’s become more and more apparent something is wrong, something has happened to him, and the earliest he can remember it triggering is his last day on the field.

Gray has started to develop a sixth sense, a sight for spirits. The harder he concentrates, the worse his headaches are later that day. It comes and goes, but the longer he works in Paris, the more he starts see things that shouldn’t be there on a daily basis. Gray believes he's going insane with delayed possible PTSD, and that's why he's seeing things, but he's unsure.
