Slowly, as Jonah speaks, Malakai's smile disappears.Back and forth he looks into those reddened eyes and his own rolled. "Puh... Everyone deserves the luxury to die, Jonah. It's a gift to pass from this world and move on to the next. To leave this sin-ridden plane and escape to a refreshed life."
A frustrated hand runs through his thick hair as he turns away for a second, then turns to see the movement in the pile. "Praise, another fucking miracle." He motions with his hand towards the girl who managed to survive as well. So petite and pink.
He walks over, almost storming, to get a better look at these lifeless bodies, picking one up to lift it. "Is there another? Mm? Another hidden gem in this pile of lackluster?!"

she struggles briefly, before the corpses is pulled off, not by a pair of hands. dora bolts upright with a gasp, blinking against the light. for a moment, she seems to be drawing breath to continue her screams, but instead she lets it out slowly. a little shakily.
she gapes at her saviour a moment, dazed, before remembering herself. dora's mouths shuts with what is almost an audible click. "oh. thank you." her tone is remarkably steady. she ignores the implication that this is not the place for her. "blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the lamb." she says, steeling herself with a smile. she needs to be here.
dora's eyes flick over to the corpse - her heart swells painful against the walls of her chest at the sight of her. she hesitates slightly before reaching out to close her eyes and brush hair from her face. she wipes her fingers on her dress which is already stained beyond salvation, though the thought doesn't occur to her. lower lip trembling, she averts her eyes and rises to her knees.
she wrings her hands as she surveys the scene. it feels familiar, a sense of deja-vu, though neither can she remember where she's seen this before. a man is handling the dead with nonchalance that makes her uneasy.
"please," she blurts. "leave them rest."

Uniformed magicians move on the scene, ushering the gathered commoners away. Murmuring ripples through the crowd at first sight then loud protests sound.
"Why didn't you prevent this?" A man screams at one of the magician's. "You're supposed to protect us!"
He reaches for his collar, wanting to shake the man. Unseen, djinn heed their master's bidding and push the man back. To the onlookers, it seems wind knocked him back. Fear pulses through the crowd.
