blurry lights guide him home under enlarged stars; the moon is bigger and flatter at the same time. vivien sways his way home with a vengeance, clumsy even when turning the key to his door.
bleary eyed, the darkness collapses the image of his hallway into some murky, dark sea. he pinches the bridge of his nose, squints, only to almost tumble head first. the floor cushions his uncomfortable landing. he celebrates his discomfort with an 'ow', only to have his hands scramble at his shoes.

he's lying supine on the bed—vivian's, but it's not like the other's home anyways—squinting up at the boxy pixellated screen of a video game. the only source of light, glaring, artificial, comes from the muted device he has raised over his head like an offering. his arms are cramping, vision blurring, but the level boss is worse-off, health bar nearly depleted.
there's a thump in the foyer. ezra defeats the monster not seconds after and lets the device drop carelessly onto bedding. he feels dizzy, vaguely queasy from lying down too long as he gets up to investigate the sound.
it all fades into mirth upon spotting vivien on the floor trying to take off his shoes. key word—trying. arms crossed, ezra leans against the wall to watch the show. "need some help there?"

he involuntarily yawns for a full second, far too loud, but manages to somehow clumsily pull his final shoe off, which ends up flying at the door. he frowns at it, but remembers to lean back to stare at ezra blankly. only to then have his arms give out, collapsing onto the floor.

he laughs—vivien looks pitiful—and immediately feels guilt itch at his throat, mixed with a twinge of concern when the blond crumples completely. ezra sobers, stepping over to peer down at vivien's eyes, check his complexion. his knee nudges the other's thigh, once, twice.
"seriously, you're wasted. you okay?"

he sits up, but that in itself was a struggle. he crosses his legs and rubs his temples, but his vision still retains its false blurriness. even ezra's voice is slightly distorted at the edges. shit. he knows he's a lightweight but when cornered into work parties, even vivien's long standing reluctance couldn't get him out of it.
"no." he stammers. "can't... think... ugh." he then rubs at his empty stomach, and stares weakly at ezra. he slowly extends a hand.

his brow knits together at the stammered reply; he's never seen vivien so drunk to the point of incoherency. forcibly blowing the air out of his cheeks, ezra huffs and grips vivien's outreached hand. he stands, with some difficulty from their combined weight, and heaves the other up along with him.

the other helps pull him to his feet, and he shifts his weight over with an arm around ezra's shoulder, fearing that his legs will fail him. he mumbles incoherent strings reminiscent of a language long dead, his eyes batter over paranoia of dry eyes. his mouth is the thing that's dry.
at his questions, viv shakes his head; his head is trobbing, hanging, he feels as if he's going to fall.

"you're babbling," he says, doesn't bother trying to pick apart senseless syllables. he inches towards the bedroom, their progress slow and stumbling—vivien is just dead weight. granted, ezra has little clue what else he could do besides put the blond to bed. his own experience with total intoxication has always been straightforward: lie down, sleep, and try not to die.
they never make it across, the losing pair in what feels like a three-legged race. in the unlit gloom, his foot trips over something solid, insidious. his mouth opens to shape a curse that never gets voiced before they're already toppling, crashing down into a tangle of stray limbs.
"fucking hell." of course, it has to be a book. ezra groans, wincing at the sharp ache in his tailbone, and kicks the hardcover away in retaliation. it hits the wall with a satisfying thunk. "i blame you, viv."

having partly cushioned what he thinks is his second fall of the evening, viv fails to lament anything as the migraine takes hold. he groans softly, unaware of ezra's pain or what was happening; for as much as he knew, he was in bed, and he could finally rest.
he rests his head at the crook of ezra's neck and breathes slowly, evenly. 'don't go,' he whispers, strained. 'don't leave...' as if already caught in a haphazardly dreamed scene. his fingers tug at the younger's shirt.

vivien's nonsequitur response leaves him a bit baffled, wondering if the other was seriously delirious, or already asleep. he tucks his chin onto his chest to stare down the top of a blond head, listening for the tell-tale rhythm of breaths.
"...viv? you asleep?" ezra ventures, tries vainly to wiggle into a position that didn't press his abused hipbone further into the floor.
sighing, he knocks his head back and vacantly studies the ceiling.
