she pulls her spring jacket tighter around her as a cold breeze blows by. she's in a spring dress, green to match her eyes and her hair done up all neat and tidy like a real princess. but she's not, she walks down from the oversized mansion to the street. heels clicking as she walks - she hates these things, but doesn't have an change of shoes.
there are cars lined up and down the sidewalk, but she's looking for something else, someone more specifically.

the moon is waxing tonight, nearly inviolate. his eyes are raised above the line of street lamps, of whitewashed buildings. he takes a drag as he waits for his accomplice, watches the smoke curl up and obscure the stars.
ezra shivers, arms bare. he should have brought a windbreaker.

as she walks, she keeps an eye out for cars that stand out. like that white one, fresh, pristine, new by the looks of it. from the car, her eyes catch on a familiar face that makes her smile, but the smile fades quickly after. her walk towards him is leisurely, she's not really in a rush. "waiting for a hot date, young man," she asks with a faint grin on her lips.

at a familiar voice he lowers his gaze, settling on its source. the corners of his mouth twitch up, imperceptible. starlight bounces off his eyes, leaves behind a bright mischief. "yeah, prolly a no-show," ezra plays along, raises the cigarette one last time before stamping it out underfoot.
he cocks his head and steps closer with a shrug. "you'll do, though."
they're the only two stirring on the empty street, but he's learned appearances can deceive. quietly ezra asks, "anything weird on the other planes?"

winnie shakes her head, "no, everything is over by the mansion."
she juts a thumb towards the mansion she just came out of. it's a party, or gala, or something fancy she was forced to attend at her father's will. he won't miss her, won't even notice she's gone really.
"but i don't enjoy being a replacement though," she says. "how are you going to make it up to me?"

"with a steed, milady," he intones in his best imitation of haughtiness. it's so ridiculous the grin finally breaks across his face. he clears his throat and points his chin at the parade of parked cars patiently waiting for their owners—or to be stolen, ezra thinks.

she's smiling, as her eyes roam. they land on a sleek, white car. unordinary, probably belonging to someone high up in the food chain. her father drives a black car, her brothers too. "that one," she says, eyes steady, finger pointing steady.

his own eyes track after her finger to stop on the chosen car, flashy even by magicians' standards. one eyebrow creeps up, unbidden. "you really know how to pick 'em," ezra mutters, but mostly says it to temper the anticipation already fizzing in his chest.
a red-flag crops up somewhere in his mind, a distant notion—the repercussions of getting caught would probably mean more than a slap on the wrist—but he waves it off and jams his hands into his pockets decisively.
"'kay. let's do it." he moves forward, posture casual.

excitement builds in her stomach, but it spreads quickly. she follows after ezra, towards their target for the night. she circles around to the driver's side, a hand ghosts over the door handle and lock. she glances towards ezra with an eyebrow raised before it lowers and a smirk appears on her lips.
two clicks of a moment, and the door unlocks with ease. nimble fingers (and experience) make quick work of everything, "do you wanna drive?"

he drags his fingertips over the lacquered hood of the car, crosses to the passenger's side and waits for winnie to work her—figurative—magic. feeling jittery, his eyes dart around their surroundings, watching for any sign of trouble. besides them, the two car thieves, anyways.
at the question ezra gazes back at her and tries not to look overeager. "since you offered," he shrugs, already heading back around.

"just don't crash it, okay?" she says with a laugh and a grin.
winifred walks around to the other-side of the car and slides into the passenger's seat. she shuts the door behind her and clicks in her seatbelt before she starts to play with the radio. she flips stations until she settles on one she—supposes—they'll both enjoy.
she glances as ezra in the driver's seat, "so where are we going for date night, lover boy?"
