he cannot remember ever meeting them - they were always there. maybe he was born there, amongst the travel, the hustle and bustle of circus life. there were performers who joined, left, it was a continuous back and forth. some grew charmed with the cities they visited - but he was often too scared to leave, the circus his home and his stability.[break][break]
first he was a dancer. the circus thought, with his nimble feet and lithe frame that he would excel at it. and perhaps he did, for a while, as a child dancer. but he grew up, he became too tall, they said, too muscular. he was neither, of course, but he was fine with this. much as he loved the sport - his eyes had always been upon the lion tamer. it was another sort of dance, but it involved more, something he later found out was called ‘trust’.[break][break]
the circus soon needed another lion tamer - his teacher had taught him many things, but he had never gone into a cage with the lions. he often said it was too dangerous - to wait until they gave birth to cubs, to get used to them then, as it would be easier then. rowan didn’t listen, being fifteen and stupid, and as a result he really did get attacked - one of the tigress had bit his left arm, scarring him. still, he was determined to continue his training, even if for a little while being near a big cat had him trembling and shaking.[break][break]
it was six months of rehabilitation and the introduction to the newly born cubs that got him back onto track. he’s since covered his scar with a tattoo. he trusts his cats, two lions and a tiger, with his life. he’s taught them tricks, feats, can even put his head into their mouths without so much trouble. on the stage, he is cool, collected, calm, graceful (screw the people who said he couldn’t be a dancer). otherwise, he’s with his cats and he’s happy - he cares deeply for them, even if he is a man with little to say.

despite being a magician, rowan hasn’t actually gotten around to contracting a djinn, yet. he’s just been too busy with his cats. they are his life, his livelihood - he feels a djinn could possibly break that bond. he’s also deathly afraid of the consequences of not doing it right.
