It smelled of cheap perfume, cigarette smoke, and aged alcohol.
There is no finer description for the bar, except for maybe tacking on the word 'damp' to it. Snap, her tasteless bubblegum goes; the woman striding about the building as confidently as one could without it being insinuated that she were looking for trouble. Astrid held no fondness for dealing with the drunks that frequented the business nor did she find any pleasure in the way that her present employer capitalized on her presence. 'Pretty women attract pretty pennies', the old man would say in that all too snide tone of his.
Snap, her bubblegum goes again. She sets an amber bottle of cider down onto a table, ignoring the unpleasant words that the drunkards absolutely had to share with her. Please. Information might have been more appreciated, but she supposes that she cannot expect much from people that linger among the filth. (Herself included.) Still, she cracks the tiniest of smiles and offers the ever soft tinkle of a laugh before the heavy, mahogany door swings open.
There enters one particular customer that she has not yet come to dislike, though she's far from being fond of. Azurite flicks to the ticking clock, then to the calendar. Six o' clock on the dot. A rainy Tuesday evening, just after the sun dips beneath the horizon.
Snap, her bubblegum goes. "Yer' late t'day. Somethin' 'eld y' up, sweet'eart?"
She smiles.

a foreigner in this cities of paris he is. no one he knows, no friends to call his. content he may be with the troupe, but he craves company of new faces. he finds the bars easily, takes to their atmosphere. if he drinks enough he’ll get drunk so the money he spends isn’t wasted. he frequents enough that his face becomes known by the bartenders.
not a moment after the circus closes he’s making his way. held up today by fans, he’s late. it’s noticed the second he walks in the door.
“a couple of fans. the usual please.” at the bar he sits. astrid is a welcomed face. the habitual snaps of bubblegum familiar and comforting. “been busy tonight?”

She sometimes wonders where it is that Haven had come from.
Where he might have been, what he had seen beyond the city's limits. She had never been given the opportunity to do such a thing herself. It's too dangerous outside, she's been reminded time and time again. Why it's too dangerous is beyond her own comprehension and duty to her own is reason enough for her to never set foot beyond the borders.
Still, there is mystery and wonder out there and her curiosity, perhaps her only asset, had called her to Haven like a moth to a flame.
"The usual? Y' got it." A nod, then another snap of bubblegum before she makes her way to the bar to place the order before attending to a few of the other customers. "S'been aw'right. Nothin' real noteworthy, I s'pose. Wha' 'bout y'? 'ow was yer' show?"
