In the commoner’s society each family’s firstborn is handed over to the Parisian Protectorate government to be raised. Hers is a rather interesting situation though. In the case of her family, their first pregnancy resulted in twins. And she had the fortune (or misfortune) of being born 9 minutes and 38 seconds after her eldest sibling. Sister or brother, she does not know. Her parents know little and told her even less, but it’s always felt as though half her soul was missing.
[break][break]
She is the owner’s daughter and (self-proclaimed) head chef of a quaint little café in quartier de la bastille. Her oldest younger brother Adrien (24) helps out mostly with the front of house. The twins, Jean (21) and Pierre (21), went off and joined the police force and she suspects Nicolas (19) will leave them soon as well – so it’s primarily Sophie and Adrien who run the café. However, their father (James, 55) is still very much the owner of the café and in particularly good health, so in reality he’s the one running the business – or so he likes to claim despite Sophie’s accusations to the contrary.
[break][break]
As the only daughter in the family of six, her four younger brothers like to fancy themselves her protectors and her father dotes on her as his princess. Their mother passed away when she was 15 and Sophie took it upon herself to be a mother to the three youngest siblings. Sophie tends to be overly upbeat around them and others, even when she’s not feeling terribly happy herself, and likes to keep herself busy. She can be a bossy, worrywart-nag (according to her brothers), and has quite the foul mouth and temper to boot – Sophie likes to claim it comes with the territory, growing up with all boys.
[break][break]
She gets flustered easily, a fact which her brothers often like to take advantage of, much to her chagrin. Her face is also terribly honest with her emotions; so whenever she’s feeling down, one of the boys always takes it upon himself to play the fool. Sophie is blissfully ignorant of their underlying intent, but they do manage to always cheer her up. Frankly, everyone in her family knows she pushes herself too hard (even strangers can tell most of the time), and since they can’t convince her to talk about it, they’ve resorted to other more humorous ways to life her spirits.
[break][break]
Her father and brothers (mostly Adrien) often force her to take days off in somewhat comical ways. Once, her father changed all the locks on the shop doors overnight and then stubbornly refused to give her the keys. Adrien sometimes keeps her up late and gets her drunk so that it’s simply impossible to get up in the morning on time. They both do it out of love, but she can get oh-so-frustrated with them. They’ll take her annoyance gladly so long as it gets her to relax for a day.
[break][break]
Her brothers, particularly Adrien, worry that she is too unsuspecting of other people. Sophie stubbornly refuses to see the worst in others, or be even remotely suspicious when something seems to be clearly amiss. They joke that she’ll follow anyone home like a puppy, but it really isn’t a joke…and that’s what worries them. Sophie has a certain naïveté that is like to get her killed one day.
